They will perform:
Radical Polish Ansambl is a meeting of the old ethos of rural musicians with the most avant-garde ideas of modern music. There is room for improvisation, exploration, experimentation, and all based on a strong foundation – knowledge of rural performance techniques, learned directly from the masters in the form of direct transmission. RPA performs traditional music from central Poland in its own arrangements, as well as works by composers inspired by the music of the Polish countryside, such as Tadeusz Sielanka, Zygmunt Krauze, Cezary Duchnowski and Piotr Żak. The Radical Polish Ansambl also infects composers of the younger generation such as Slawomir Kupczak, Agnieszka Stulgińska, Kuba Krzewinski, and invites them to listen to rural music and compose pieces especially for their unusual lineup. In collaboration with composers and during concerts, the band minimizes the use of musical notation in favor of a live performance.
RPA has two CDs to its credit: Radical Polish Ansambl (2nd prize in the Polish Radio’s Folk Phonogram of the Year 2019 competition) and Diabelskie Skrzypce 2020.
The ensemble consists of violinists and fiddlers Maciej Filipczuk (musical direction), Emilia Bolibrzuch, Łucja Siedlik, Maria Stępień, Mateusz Kowalski, Marcin Lorenc and Piotr Gwadera who plays the jaz – a country percussion kit.
South Africa’s collective improvisation flowed freely and balanced on the edge of archaic and post-modern music. They listen to each other perfectly and speak with one voice.
