The Avant Art Festival, an international music festival, has been held continuously since 2008 and will be held in Wroclaw for the seventeenth time and in Warsaw for the eighth time. This year the first edition will be held in Lublin.
The first edition of the Avant Art Festival in Lublin is another announcement this year. After the first edition in Walbrzych (and special events in Legnica) in July, the announcement of the program for the editions in Wroclaw and Warsaw (the latter also includes a special event – in cooperation with the Warsaw Autumn festival), Avant Art is revealing more cards.
The Center for Intercultural Creative Initiatives ROZDROŻA and Avant Art are invited to Lublin for the Avant Art Festival.
“For several years Avant Art has been appearing in more or less unusual places on the map of Poland. Last year it was Poznań, this summer the festival appeared in Walbrzych and Legnica, while in October Avant Art Festival will visit Lublin for the first time!
After the success of the international project In Between Norway & Poland / Culture implemented by the Avant Art Foundation and OMIT Crossroads in 2022, we decided to have a joint three-day and at the same time extremely rich and musically uncompromising edition of Avant in co-organization with Crossroads.” Kostas Georgakopulos, festival director, says about the first edition of Avant Art in Lublin.
The first edition of the Avant Art Festival in Lublin will feature performances by Mabe Fratti, Mopcut and Japanese experimental music master Keiji Haino, among others.
The Lublin edition will be held October 3-5, with a program:

Descriptions of individual projects:
BIG|BRAVE (CA)
BIG|BRAVE combines elements of traditional folk techniques with a modern deconstruction of guitar music. Distinguished by their unique instrumental lineup – two guitars and drums, with no bass – their music is described as “massive minimalism,” where gain, feedback and amplitude are key elements. They draw inspiration from bands such as Swans, Fire! Orchestra, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and from the works of H. M. Górecki and Arvo Pärt.

DEAFKIDS (BR)
Another avant-garde punk band whose sound does not easily lend itself to definition. But it’s hard not to fall into a defining cliché when the Brazilian trio experiments with form by combining: the rawness of punk, the sequentiality of metal, hypnotic vocals with trance-like polyrhythms, or pulsating and disturbing electronic sounds. DEAFKIDS’ music draws on the rich tradition of Brazilian intercultural society, both musically and politically. The band’s percussion layer is influenced by such genres as Samba, Lundu, Frevo, Pagode, Forró, Baião and Carimbó.

Keiji Haino (JP)
Born in 1952 in Chiba, Japan, the wizard of the musical avant-garde has a reputation of almost legendary status. He alternates between solo and ensemble projects, combining rock, noise, improvised music and drone. The spectrum of Japandroids’ artistic expression is exceptionally wide: from straight blues, through equally harsh whispered vocal forms, noisy backings to music inspired by medieval European music; thorny and clear guitar figures, repeat and stretch as if in a trance, cutting through gloomy motifs and excessive concert smoke. The performances of the “screaming Japanese” are performances with a visuality that strongly alludes to surrealist aesthetics.

Mabe Fratti (GT/MX)
Solo artist originally from Guatemala, currently residing in Mexico. A classically trained cellist, she has gained recognition for her unique style, which combines elements of experimental electronica, pop and jazz. Her music draws inspiration from a variety of sources, including the works of György Ligeti and Jacqueline du Pré.

PÖ (FR/GHANA)
A French-Ghanaian artist who is an actress, music producer, vocalist and DJ, she has been involved for years with the Nyege Nyege and Hakuna Kulala crew – labels known for their promotion of African artists and club explorations of the East African and Congolese electronic underground. The artist draws on many African vocal traditions, with the throaty, raw voice as the dominant performance element. She composes soundscapes mainly with her voice, juxtaposing post-punk sounds with fast rap, metallic industrial or distorted bass. West African pop and singing as well as DIY noise and experimental electronics are important points of reference in her work.

TEST (BR)
The São Paulo-based band was founded in 2011 by João Kombi (vocals, guitar) and Thiago Barata (drums). TEST’s music has evolved from classic deathgrind to more experimental forms of metal, combining the rawness of grindcore with elements of punk. Today, the band is known for its spontaneity and openness to diverse inspirations, which is reflected in their many unusual projects.

MOPCUT (USA/FRA/AUT)
A trio consisting of Audrey Chen (vocals and analog synthesizers), Julien Desprez (electric guitar) and Lukas König (drums and synthesizers). MOPCUT’s music oscillates between brutal, chaotic noise and moments of minimalist introspection, creating contrasting, dynamic compositions. Electronic battles, improvised sounds and intense vocals create a unique, powerful atmosphere that draws the listener into an immersive sonic experience.
