You are invited to an exhibition of photographs documenting the wartime destruction in the Zhytomyr Oblast, in northern Ukraine, by Russian and allied forces.
The Zhytomyr Oblast, which lies on the border with Belarus, was one of the targets of Russian bombing and rocket attacks in the first weeks of the war. Ukrainian soldiers managed to retake the area as early as March. There were repeated attacks in the following months, and in November 2022, the Russians launched more than 100 rockets towards Zhytomyr and Kiev. This was the most massive air attack to date, leaving more than 80% of the population of the Zhytomyr region without electricity.
The Zhytomyr Oblast is the largest concentration of the Polish minority in Ukraine.

Denis Motsny
Born in Berdyczów, photojournalist and cameraman with accreditation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, volunteer, councillor of the Berdyczów City Council, public figure, member of the group of councillors “Equal Opportunities”.
From the first days of the war he was a volunteer, activist, photographer of important events that took place in Zhytomyr Oblast and all Ukraine. He travelled many times to liberated areas and to the front, to soldiers on humanitarian missions. Each trip represents human stories, destruction and the struggle for survival documented in photographs.
Leonid Shevchuk
Representative of the mayor of Zhytomyr, professional photographer, photography teacher. Many events and moments have passed before the lenses of his cameras. He is able to spot the “best moments” and collect emotions, and most importantly, retain memories. Leonid Shevchuk is one of the most experienced and well-known photographers in Zhytomyr. For a long time he travelled around the Zhytomyr region and recorded the aftermath of the war. In his photographs, he accurately captures and conveys the human moods and transformations taking place in Ukrainian society under the impact of the war with Russia.
The exhibition is organised by the Crossroads Centre, in cooperation with the City Council of Lublin.

Моцний Денис, народився у Бердичеві, фотокорреспондент та відеограф із акредитацією від Збройних сил України, волонтер, депутат Бердичівської міської ради, громадський діяч, член депутатської групи з гендерних питань «Рівні можливості».
Із перших днів війни – волонтер, активіст, фотофіксатор важливих подій, які відбувалися на Житомирщині та по всій Україні. Неодноразово виїжджав у складі гуманітарних місій на деокуповані території та передову до військових. Кожна поїздка – це задокументовані в фотографіях людські історії, руйнування, боротьба за виживання.
Шевчук Леонід, прес-секретар міського голови Житомира, професійний фотограф, викладач фотомистецтва. Крізь об’єктиви його фотоапаратів пройшло чимало подій та моментів, він вміє бачити «родзинку» кожного та колекціонувати емоції, а найголовніше – він зберігає спогади. Фотограф Леонід Шевчук – один з найдосвідченіших та найвідоміших у Житомирі.
Впродовж тривалого часу їздив по всьому Житомирському регіону та фіксував наслідки війни. У своїх фотороботах автор точно вловлює і передає людські настрої та трансформації, які відбуваються в українському суспільстві через війну із росією.
